Frequently asked questions.
What is the best way to get started?
As a Superintendent or Director of Special Education at the district level it is best to get started by taking a look at your district data. Specifically look at your Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) percentages by school, your CWD performance in reading (ELA) and Math, your discipline data, your drop out data, and your graduation rate data. Once you have a grasp of the schools in your district that are doing well, and the schools that you would like to improve we can begin to differentiate. If your strategic plan includes improving outcomes you are ahead of the game!!!
What would working with Improving Outcomes 4 All look like?
It starts with you, the Superintendent/Director of Special Education/Principal, deciding that you want to improve outcomes for the students you serve.
At the district level the first step is to present to principals. You know how important it is to engage principals early on. Upon completing this first engagement (60-120 minutes) principals can sign up for more.
The second step, at the district level, is to provide training to the school teams that expressed interest during step 1. This is also an opportunity for leadership to identify schools who did not express interest but who’s data indicates that change may be needed for inclusion in this training. This training can be done in person for one full day for up to 5 school teams or over the internet, thought the internet option would be 2 90-120 minute sessions for the school teams with some work in between session 1 and session 2. (Thanks COVID!)
If you are a principal looking to improve outcomes at your school, skip to the second step. Though I strongly recommend that you bring your district leadership into the discussion.
See below for a description of the engagement touch points.

Will the school need more special education/intervention staff to improve outcomes?
Not necessarily. We will work with the staffing plan that you have. We will work towards efficient and effective use of staff based on student needs.
Is this a program?
No. This is a focus on mindset and culture through the implementation of a student centered process that is sustainable.
When do outcomes start to improve?
Depending on the outcome the improvements may be immediate. Many schools that have worked with me report massive reductions in disciplinary incidents and improvements in self-esteem. Academic outcomes are lagged but can be seen within year one. Improvement on state summative assessments takes longer but you will see them!
Can I contact other districts or schools that have worked with you?
Absolutely!!! References will gladly be provided. Please contact me!
